November, 2024: Once upon a time, decades ago, these were famous taglines for major national campaigns to discourage people—children, in particular—from using illicit drugs. And those ads stuck—people remembered the campaigns because they were effective, and there was leadership backing them up.

August, 2024: Pro-pot forces recently hailed Kamala Harris when the Democratic presidential nominee picked Tim Walz as her running mate for vice president, calling it the "Cannabis Dream Team." More like the marijuana nightmare—at least for us in Wyoming, where we have sought to halt the proverbial barbarians at the gate. We've been successful so far, keeping the mind-altering drug illegal in the cowboy state.

August, 2024: A lot of facts get lost in the sound and fury over the move by the Biden administration to reschedule marijuana as a less dangerous drug.

August, 2024: Ever heard of Kamala Kush? It's the dubious name of a strain of marijuana being peddled to the masses, and it's named after none other than Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee for the president of the United States. Sure, there have been late-night comedy jokes about this strain of weed. Even Harris herself has kidded about it.

August, 2024: Just because the president of the United States wants something doesn't make it so. That's especially the case with Biden's favorable opinion on marijuana. Lately, the president has been publicly pushing to reschedule marijuana from Schedule I to Schedule III, which would designate it as a less dangerous drug, despite a half century or so of wisdom to the contrary.

August, 2024: Recently, about 150 social workers called for President Biden to decriminalize marijuana. Why should we care in Wyoming? Well, for at least one good reason: Beware of the slippery slope.

July, 2024: The argument goes something like this: Delta 8 is a less potent drug than regular marijuana, so what's the big deal? Well, in short, it is a big deal—because the mind-altering drug is in fact quite potent and hazardous.

July, 2024: We've been part of the resistance movement for several years, and perhaps it's part of our DNA, the rugged individualism and independence that distinguishes the Cowboy State from others.

July, 2024: Black is white. Up is down. Right is wrong. That's kind of the crazy concept behind the ballot initiative in Florida that's seeking to legalize marijuana for adult use—or so-called "recreational" weed. (It's not a pastime, for the uninitiated.)

May, 2024: In a recent message on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, Rep. Rachel Rogriguez-Williams, a state lawmaker from Cody in the 50th District, shared an important quote from the former chief of operations for the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency.

April, 2024: Saying something is true doesn't make it so. That's especially the case with the so-called "Compassionate Care Act," a bill to bring about marijuana as medicine in South Carolina.

April, 2024: Leave it to the feds to muck things up. Just when lawmakers in Wyoming took steps to curb the flow of marijuana in our state, the federal government appears poised to loosen restrictions on the illegal, mind-altering drug.

March, 2024: Wyoming just dodged a bullet, and we should all be thankful. The state Senate wisely rejected an ill-conceived bill that would have complicated the problem of marijuana in the Cowboy State. But we can't rest easy.

March, 2024: This should be simple: Marijuana is illegal, according to federal law across the United States. It's also illegal, according to state law, in Wyoming. But it's already here in the Cowboy State—in a manner of speaking.

February, 2024: HB30, currently in the hands of the Senate Judiciary Committee, demands attention and action. While initial concerns about a potential amendment to decriminalize marijuana possession under 3 ounces thankfully did not materialize with this bill, HB30 remains a critical issue for our state.

February, 2024: Pro-pot forces, for instance, will tell you this doozy: That marijuana should be decriminalized in Wyoming, where it remains illegal. They will tell you that decriminalization is a way to reduce the rate at which people—especially people of color—are put in prison on marijuana charges.

January, 2024: Over the past decade, well-funded forces have repeatedly tried to kick down the door to make marijuana legal in one form or another in Wyoming. The pro-pot camp has tried just about everything: They wanted to get it on the ballot.
